The Big Read!

For the second year in a row, Blair County libraries, schools, and businesses will join together to present a community reading program. This year, the National Endowment for the Arts has selected One Book Blair County as one of 127 libraries, municipalities, and arts, culture, higher education, and science organizations to receive a grant to host a Big Read celebration from January-June 2008. The NEA launched the Big Read nationally in 2007 in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

Generous funding has also been provided by the Wolf-Kuhn Foundation.

One Book Blair County's 2008 selection is Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Throughout the month of April, 2008, One Book Blair County will present book discussions, movies, and other cultural events designed to bring our community together through the enjoyment of reading.

Please join us in making Fahrenheit 451 part of your community life.

For more information, please contact One Book Blair County Planning Committee chairperson Deborah Weakland, Altoona Area Public Library Director.
