Are you new to computers or would you like to become more proficient? Learn the fundamentals of Computers and Microsoft Windows during this 4-week series. Topics include Using the mouse and keyboard, storage, files, navigating windows, and more. There will be a $5 registration fee due at sign up. Call 946-0417 ext 125 to register. Learn the basics of machine sewing and create a small take home project. This class is meant for children with little or no sewing machine experience. Students MUST attend all 3 days.

Calling all teens! This is your time to shine at Teen Open Mic Night on November 4th at 6pm in the library theater! Take the stage to sing, dance, act, play an instrument, recite poetry, or do a dramatic reading. All language, dress, and actions should be appropriate (PG rated). This special play time is for ages 3 and under. Come in clothes that can get messy because we’ll have a pudding dinosaur playscape, a jello fishtank, and lots of other messy activities!

Children ages 8 & older are invited to join us on November 2nd at 10:30am as we go back in time to the colonial days during “Colonial Craft & Cuisine”. Explore what life was like as a child in the early 1700’s. We will sample recipes and children’s activities from the era. Amanda Grazier from Fort Roberdeau will be bringing colonial toys and games for the event. This is a free program. Register by calling 946-0417 ext 123.

The Altoona Area Public Library will be hosting an All Day Knit-In from 9am – 4pm in the Board Room.  Come for a few hours or stay all day. Enjoy the company of others who enjoy doing handiwork. If you have question or would like to learn, there will be teachers available. Beginners bring size 8 needles, and some light colored yarn. This is a free program.

Come to our “Getting to know Nanowrimo” program on October 29th from 6-8 to discover how you really can write a novel in a month. Brainstorm story ideas with other potential participants, and learn about past published novels. This is a free program available for anyone 13 and older.

The Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library will hold its Fall Used Book Sale from 8:30am – 5pm Friday, October 25th and 9:00am – 4pm Saturday, October 26th and from 8:30am – 6pm on Monday, October 28th on the ground floor of the library. There are no Sunday hours. Monday is $5.00 a bag day. Friends members are invited to the Preview Sale on Thursday, October 24th from 6pm – 8pm. There are no tricks, only treats! Wear a Halloween Costume and get a free book! The book sales offer very affordable books of all kinds from adult fiction, children’s books, bestsellers to classics, non-fiction such as travel, art, history, home repair, genealogy, health, science, crafts, language, and true crime books. The sale also includes puzzles, DVDs, CDs, AudioBooks, patterns, games and more. All money raised benefits the library.
